Manuscript Guide

General Review Criteria

  • The International Technical Committee will assess each Abstract/Paper using the following criteria:
    • Conceptual foundation
    • Methodology
    • Originality
    • Significance of contribution
    • Managerial implication
    • Clarity of presentation
    • Alignment to Congress purpose/theme
    • Overall assessment of appeal to academic delegates
    • Overall assessment of appeal to business delegates
  • Your abstract/paper will have a higher chance of being accepted if it:
    • Shows examples, practical applications, cause and effect, business benefits from the best practice or method.
    • Shows original material – innovative or new application of a business improvement method or original research
    • Is relevant to a business audience – think about what a business can gain/learn from your presentation that they could then apply
    • o Has a well-defined focus that supports the Congress theme of “A roadmap for excellence in organisational performance & nation building”. For example, abstracts/papers on benchmarking, best practices or the application of tools and techniques that assist organisations in their pursuit of excellence. Papers that show how excellence models and their core concepts can align to national objectives and building capabilities in the government and economy are welcomed.
    • Advances the management and quality profession and body of knowledge

Paper Selection Process

  • Abstract/Paper submission dates are shown here
  • Confirmation will be emailed upon receipt of the paper.
  • A double blind review of the papers/abstracts will be conducted by members of the International Technical Committee using the rating criteria shown above.
  • The selection team reserves the rights to limit multiple speaker selection from the same company or organization in order to achieve a balanced programme.

Instructions for Creating Manuscripts

Authors of invited and contributed papers are requested to format their manuscripts as follows:

Paper or Abstract? The maximum length of a paper is 8 pages (including References). In addition an abstract should be provided of between 150-200 words. If you are only submitting an abstract then it should be up to 500 words in length.
Papers will have a higher chance of acceptance and only full papers will be considered for the publication in International Journals.
Paper size: Letter Size (North American Standard), A4
Page setup: Top margin 2cm, bottom margin 2cm, right and left margin 2cm.
Page 1 – Title of the paper: 0.8cm from top margin, adjusted left.
(Times New Roman, 18 pt, bold)
Page 1 – Name(s) of the authors: (First name, last name) adjusted left. (Times New Roman, 12 pt, italic)
Page 1 – Address(es) of the author(s): Adjusted left, line spacing single, -Institution, Department, Street address, city (with Postal Code), Country, E-mail Address. (Times New Roman, 12 pt italic)
Page 1 – Subtitles: Numbered by Arabic numerals, adjusted left. (Times New Roman, 12 pt bold )
Page 1 – Abstract: This should be a summary of the paper describing its purpose; methodology/approach; findings; research limitations/implications (if applicable); practical implications; and, the originality/value of paper.
Page 1 – Bios and Photos of Authors: Provide short bios and photos of the authors – to include on the website. Indicate which author(s) will be speaking at the Congress. Up to 125 words.
Page 1 – Content of paper: Contributors should specify the practical implications of their work. They should specify:

  • background and content;
  • objectives, i.e. what you were trying to do;
  • the salient events or process or practice (or methodology used for an academic paper);
  • the results, and how they were obtained; and
  • the implications for others (describing how businesses can learn from this).

As a guide focus on operational strategies, innovative practices, models, tactics, and measurement methods addressing how to make improvements happen (including lessons from unsuccessful initiatives). Ensure that your paper fits at least one of the Congress themes. Whilst conceptual / vision pieces are welcome, they will comprise a minority of the Congress presentations.

Body of text: Line spacing single, adjusted left, indent: first line 1cm. (Times New Roman 12pt)
Formulae: 2cm from the left margin with identifying numbers on the left in round parentheses, adjusted left.
Table titles: Above the table, numbered by Arabic numerals, adjusted left.
Tables: Should be typed as part of the text.
Graph of figure titles: Under the graph or figure, numbered by Arabic numerals, adjusted left.
References: References should be indicated in the typescript by giving the author’s name, with the year of publication in parentheses. If several papers by the same author and from the same year are cited, a, b, c, etc. should be put after the year of publication. The references should be listed in full at the end of the paper in the following standard form:Deming, W.E. (1986) Out of the Crisis (Cambridge, MA, MIT Centre for Advanced Engineering Study).

Microsoft Word: The manuscript of the paper should be created using Microsoft Word.

Publication of papers

  • All speakers are eligible to have their papers published in the Congress proceedings.
  • All authors whose names appear on the published final papers will be assumed to have allowed the Congress to:
    • Include their papers in the Congress Proceedings
    • Show their paper on the Congress website if the paper wins a Best Paper Award.
  • Assistance will be given by the International Technical Committee to help authors publish their papers in one of the following journals:
    • Q-NewZ Magazine
    • TQM Journal
    • Measuring Business Excellence Journal
    • International Journal of Quality & Reliability Management
    • International Benchmarking Journal
    • International Journal of TQM and Business Excellence
  • The winners of the Best Paper Award and other selected papers will be profiled in the Business Performance Improvement Resource,, with the author’s agreement.
